Quick answer Rideshare and delivery drivers in Las Vegas (Uber, Lyft, DoorDash, Instacart, Amazon Flex, Grubhub) are independent contractors, so they report driving income on Schedule C, pay 15.3% self-employment tax on net earnings, and deduct business miles at the IRS standard rate of 72.5 cents a mile for January 1 to June 30, 2026 and 76 cents a mile for July 1 to December 31, 2026 (70 cents for 2025). Nevada has no state income tax, so most drivers file only a federal return. Our fees depend on the forms your return needs. Call 702-871-7884 for a quote.

Key facts (checked October 29, 2026)
Whether you drive airport runs for Uber and Lyft or deliver for DoorDash, Instacart or Amazon Flex, gig platforms treat you as an independent contractor, not an employee. That means:
The IRS is clear that gig income is taxable even if it is part time, paid in cash or app credits, or never reported on a 1099 (IRS gig economy tax center; Manage taxes for your gig work).
Most drivers get an annual tax summary from each app, and it may include a 1099-K, a 1099-NEC, both or neither. Here is how the two forms differ.
Sources: IRS, Understanding your Form 1099-K and IRS, Am I required to file a Form 1099.
The gross figure on a rideshare tax summary often includes amounts you never kept, such as booking fees, service fees and other platform charges. Those fees are a business expense. If a 1099-K shows gross fares, we report the gross on Schedule C and then deduct the fees, so the IRS can match the form to your return. We also pick up income that isn't on a 1099, such as small bonuses or a second app that paid you less than the threshold.
Bring each app's full annual tax summary, your mileage log and your expense records.
You can deduct car costs one of two ways. The IRS suggests figuring both before you choose (Topic 510).
Source: IRS Topic 510, Business use of car and IRS standard mileage rates. Because 2026 has two rates, log your miles by date so we can split them between January to June and July to December.
Gig worker 1099 taxes come in two layers. First, self-employment tax of 15.3% applies to your net earnings from self-employment (12.4% Social Security, 2.9% Medicare). Second, your net profit, after the deduction for half of the self-employment tax and any QBI deduction, is added to your other income for federal income tax. Nevada adds no state income tax on top (IRS self-employment tax; Nevada Department of Taxation).
For tax years beginning after 2025, the IRS says the QBI deduction is the greater of the regular calculation or a new minimum deduction for active qualified business income, for a business in which you materially participate (IRS).
In this example, the profit on Schedule C is $16,125, not the $48,000 on the summary. Your figures depend on your records, and we calculate them from your own documents.
Because nothing is withheld from app payouts, full-time drivers often owe $1,000 or more and need estimated payments. The IRS due dates are:
If a date falls on a weekend or legal holiday, the next business day counts (IRS). The IRS says most people avoid the underpayment penalty if they owe less than $1,000 after withholding and credits, or paid at least 90% of this year's tax or 100% of last year's, whichever is smaller (special rules apply to higher-income taxpayers) (IRS estimated taxes).
Many Las Vegas drivers also work a W-2 job on the Strip. Both go on one Form 1040, and W-2 withholding counts toward the tax on your driving profit. If you also earn tips or overtime at that job, see our guide to casino and hospitality worker taxes.
The IRS list of occupations that customarily received tips includes taxi and rideshare drivers, including app-based rideshare drivers, and goods delivery people, including app-based delivery drivers (IRS tipped occupations). Whether rider tips count toward the 2025 to 2028 tips deduction depends on how they are reported and on extra limits for self-employed people, so we check it on your actual forms.
The IRS says the new and previously owned clean vehicle credits are not available for vehicles acquired after September 30, 2025 (IRS clean vehicle credits). EV drivers still choose between standard mileage and actual expenses.
Nevada requires each rideshare driver to give the platform proof of a valid state business license at sign-up and on each anniversary of the driver agreement (NRS 706A.160). Clark County says all rideshare drivers (Uber, Lyft, HopSkipDrive) and delivery drivers must apply for a Clark County business license after getting the state license. Its posted fees are $45 to apply plus a $25 annual license fee ($70 total), with a $25 renewal due by October 31; a rideshare driver who also delivers needs an additional delivery driver license (Clark County). License fees paid for your driving business are a business expense.
We price each return by the forms it needs, so a driver with only Schedule C pays for less work than a driver with rentals or a second state. See how our tax preparation fees are determined.

Start with all gig income, whether or not a 1099 was issued, subtract business expenses such as platform fees and mileage, and the result is your Schedule C profit. Self-employment tax of 15.3% applies to net earnings, and income tax applies to profit after the half-SE-tax deduction and any QBI deduction.
The IRS business rate is 72.5 cents a mile for January 1 to June 30, 2026 and 76 cents a mile for July 1 to December 31, 2026. The 2025 rate was 70 cents a mile. Log miles by date so they can be split between the two 2026 periods.
No. You report the gross receipts, then deduct the platform fees included in that number, your business miles and other driving expenses. Tax is figured on the profit, not the gross fares.
The income is still taxable. Platforms must send a 1099-K when payments total over $20,000 in more than 200 transactions, but you must report all gig income whether or not you receive a form.
Usually, if you expect to owe $1,000 or more. Estimated payments are due April 15, June 15, September 15 and January 15 of the next year. Extra W-2 withholding can also cover the tax.
Yes. Nevada law requires rideshare drivers to show the platform a valid Nevada state business license, and Clark County says rideshare and delivery drivers must apply for a Clark County business license ($70 to start, $25 renewal due by October 31). Delivery work needs an additional delivery driver license.
